First-year higher secondary, and vocational higher secondary are to begin today but due to heavy rainfall and bad weather conditions, some of the districts have declared a holiday. 6 districts that is, Kannur, Thrissur, Ernakulam, and Kottayam have been declared holidays for educational institutions. This year’s Plus One higher secondary classes will start on Wednesday.
In all, 3,16,772 students have taken higher secondary admission, including 565 students who must provide admission details for merit seats, according to a statement issued by the office of Minister for General Education V. Sivankutty on Tuesday. Plus One pupil does not need to attend school in districts where the Collectors have announced a holiday due to excessive rain.
A red alert signifies severe to extremely heavy rainfall of more than 20 cm in 24 hours, while an orange alert suggests very heavy rains ranging from 6 cm to 20 cm. As a precaution, a holiday has been proclaimed for all educational institutions, except for colleges in the northernmost Kasaragod region. Due to the risk of landslides, the district administration recommended residents to avoid traveling on high-risk roads.
